Fall in Love With Your Car Again
We may be an MOT and repair business, but it doesn’t mean we’re not in touch with our romantic side! Okay okay, so this month’s blog may just be a feeble attempt at tying in with Valentines – but it’s still a valid blog to write!
We do not all have the luxury of upgrading our vehicles as soon as we’ve fallen out of love with the one we have. So, what can we do about it?
This blog will help you to reignite the flame between you and your four wheels.
Clean it up
You may think cleaning up an old rust bucket like yours is a waste of time and money, but I’m here to tell you that is quite the opposite. If you are REALLY not interested in applying the elbow grease, then pay someone else to do it – there are so many local companies these days that offer this service – we can recommend some for you if you need some direction.
But doing the job yourself can also be a way of reconnecting with your car; clearing out the rubbish, dusting the dash, hoovering out the boot and polishing the hub caps.
For a few extra ££
If you’ve got the budget, treat your car to some new tyres. It can really make a difference to how the car looks, sounds, rides and handles.
Another purchase for your loved one is a new battery. They become less reliable after about three years and can leave you stranded with little warning. It’s not their fault, so worth giving making sure they are in the best condition for getting you home safe and sound.
It’s what’s on the inside that counts
Well, you don’t sit on the outside when you’re driving down the motorway, do you? Treat you’re A to Z-er with some new floor mats, a new air freshener and keep a packet of antibacterial wipes in the glove compartment for you to regularly give it a quick once over. A sweet-smelling car makes every journey so much more pleasant.
Upgrade to the driver’s area
This is where you spend your time. Clean, repair and replace all around it. You know the carpet stain removers with the sponge and bristles built-in? PERFECT for the seats (just don’t sit down in them straight away or you may need a change of dry clothes). If you wanted to really go for it, you can hire a steamer to get right into the depths of the car fabric.
How about a seat belt cover, so it doesn’t rub into your neck or shoulder anymore? Keep some handy titbits in your armrest or side door. Things like a phone charger, lip balm, hand cream, mints, face mask, hand sanitiser, coin for the shopping trolley etc. Make those spaces useful and remind yourself how useful your car can be.
Sort out the bodywork
Another quick and easy fix is to get all the little dings and bumps pulled out (we can provide recommendations for companies that do this) And while they are at it, why not tidy up the scratches too? Depending on the size and depth of the scratches, T-cutting or waxing – or both – will bring your bodywork up to, well, scratch, again.
So if you’ve fallen out of love with your car, if it smells and has crisps embedded into the back seat thanks to the darling little ones, you don’t need to buy a new car to fall in love again. Clean it up, get the rubbish out of it, and buy new floor mats. It’s a much cheaper alternative than upgrading to a newer model.
