Did You Make The Most of the MOT Extension?
In 2020, the UK Government announced that MOT tests would be extended during the lockdown period, allowing people to travel to and from work whilst some garages and testing centres were closed.
After granting drivers a six-month extension to their MOT certificates in March 2020, during the coronavirus lockdown, the UK government announced that mandatory MOT testing was to be reintroduced from 1 August 2020. As the lockdown measures continue to be relaxed, an increasing number of drivers returned to the roads, prompting the cut-off date for mandatory MOT tests to be brought forward from the previously advised September 30th.
Don’t Forget Your MOT is Now Due
If you’re a vehicle owner in England, Scotland, or Wales, and the MOT for your car, motorcycle, or van expired on or after the 1st of August 2020, you are affected and need to contact us ASAP so that we can ensure that your vehicle is road legal. Your MOT certificate will not have been extended after August 1st 2020 and you’ll need to book an MOT test as you would have done before lockdown, this is a legal requirement to use your vehicle on UK roads.
Why Do I Need An MOT Inspection?
MOT certification helps to ensure that all the vehicles are roadworthy and safe for use. Amongst other issues, an MOT test will check for any wear and tear to your vehicle’s engine, the exhaust system, brakes, tyres, lights, and key areas of its bodywork. You could be fined up to £2,500, receive three points on your licence, and potentially be banned from driving should you drive a car that is deemed ‘dangerous’ by an MOT test centre.
The Department for Transport has an MOT reminder service which you can sign up to, the service, which is extremely simple to set up, will send you free text messages or emails a month before your next MOT is due, as a helpful reminder meaning you never fall foul of the law.

Do I Need to Take My Car For its MOT if I’m Shielding?
If you have been advised to shield (England, Scotland and Wales have different guidance on who needs to shield), you may well be worried about needing to leave your home for an MOT. The UK Government says that you should not leave your home to take your vehicle for its MOT if you’re shielding. The same rule applies if you’re currently self-isolating because you or someone in your household has coronavirus symptoms.
